What exactly is this again?

4×4 is essentially a four-month bible study with an online format. However, during that time, you are committing to completing four goals you set for yourself.

How does it work?

We use Slack as our online forum for discussions. Each morning, one member of your group will receive an email with the daily content. Then, using a series of automations, the content is automagically sent to your group chat.

We use a website called IFTTT.com for our automations. IFTTT stands for If This Than That. In our case, if you receive an email with a specific keyword, then IFTTT sends the content from that email directly to the Slack channel you choose. Once you get it set up right, you’ll never have to think about it again.

Why Gmail?

Gmail plays nice with IFTTT.com. There are other ways to make the automation work without a Gmail, but those have a cost associated with them. Gmail is free. If you don’t have a Gmail account, it only takes a few minutes to make it happen.

Does 4x4 cost anything?

Yes! 4×4 will cost $100 per group. If you do the math, it shakes out to $6.25 per person per month. That’s less than a #1 a Chick-Fil-A. In that case, I’m actually doing you a favor. Eating a #1 from Chick-Fil-A probably won’t help you achieve the physical goals you set for yourself.

We also think putting a little skin in the game helps with follow through. You’re much more likely to complete something you spent a little money on.

What is the time commitment?

The daily time commitment of 4×4 is a few minutes scattered throughout your day. This was designed to catch people in the flow of their lives. It really is as simple as sending a text message.

The morning devotions take a few minutes to read and responding to them takes as long as you want. From there, it’s a conversation that takes place throughout the rest of your day.

Your goals are a different matter, however. They are entirely up to you and will take as long as they take to complete.

Who needs to sign up?

Only one person from your group needs to join the mailing list. They will be responsible for setting up the automation systems.

What are some examples of goals?

Some physical goals could be run a 5k, exercise a certain amount of times per month, lose a set amount of pounds, cut out a specific type of food, do 100 pushups every day, join a gym, learn to paddle board, etc.

Some spiritual goals could be to pray everyday, memorize scripture, read a commentary, write a devotion, pray through the Psalms, read the gospel of Mark in one sitting, pray with your wife or kid everyday, etc.

Some mental goals could be to read a certain number of books, write a book, write a business plan, create a budget, learn a new skill, meditate a few times a week, learn a song, practice an instrument, etc.

Some creational goals could be to build a chair, build a fire pit, create a meal plan, build a desk, make a nursery for a new kid, build a desk for your green egg, create a financial plan to get out of debt, make a new habit, etc.

What if I hate it?

Money back guaranteed.

But, we think you’ll get out of it what you put into it.
